ridge regression

a variant on ordinary least squares regression designed to remedy problems that arise from multicollinearity. It involves modifying the main diagonal of the correlation matrix before calculating the coefficients, thus eliminating the associations among the independent variables. A researcher can use the information obtained from this analysis to determine whether certain independent variables should be removed from the final model. Also called damped regression.
