multicollinearity

n. in multiple regression, the state that occurs when several independent variables are extremely highly interrelated, making it difficult to determine separate effects on the dependent variable. For example, if a researcher includes predictors of self-esteem, self-efficacy, and self-concept in an analysis with a dependent variable of achievement, multicollinearity most likely will be present.
