linear

adj. describing any relationship between two variables (x and y) that can be expressed in the form y = a + bx, where a and b are numerical constants. No coefficient can be raised to a power greater than 1 or be the denominator of a fraction. When depicted graphically, the relationship is a straight line. Compare nonlinear.
