concentrative meditation

concentrative meditation

a type of meditation that focuses on a specific image (e.g., a yantra); a specific sound, syllable, word, or phrase (see mantra); or a specific thought. It is the opposite of insight in that thoughts unrelated to the stimulus ideally do not enter the consciousness. See also transcendental meditation. Compare mindfulness meditation.
