Elephant Man’s disease

a disease named after a 19th-century patient, Joseph Carey Merrick, who was known as “the Elephant Man”; although neurofibromatosis Type 1 was formerly suggested as the likely cause, Proteus syndrome is now thought to be a more probable cause.
