any of a broad class of theories postulating that attitude change is a result of the desire to maintain consistency among elements of a cognitive system. See also balance theory; cognitive dissonance theory; congruity theory.

mammography

n. a diagnostic procedure that uses low-dose X-ray photography to detect breast tumors or other abnormalities, either noncancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant). The X-ray negative produced is called a mammogram.
