tubal ligation

a surgical procedure for female sterilization by cutting, cauterizing, tying, or blocking the fallopian tubes. Tubal ligation does not affect sex drive, intercourse, or menstrual cycles. Although the effects of the procedure may sometimes be reversed and the ability to conceive restored, tubal ligation is usually considered permanent.
