terminal insomnia

terminal insomnia

a chronic problem in which an individual habitually awakens very early, feels unrefreshed, and cannot go back to sleep. It is a common symptom of a major depressive episode. Also called early-morning awakening insomnia. Compare initial insomnia; middle insomnia.
