standard treatment control

in a clinical trial, a type of control condition in which participants receive the treatment typically administered to a group of participants with a given medical problem. Another group of participants receives the experimental treatment. After the trial, the outcomes of the two groups are compared to see if the experimental treatment is better than, as good as, or worse than the standard treatment.
