clinical trial

a research study designed to compare a new treatment or drug with an existing standard of care or other control condition (see control group). Trials generally are designed to answer scientific questions and to find better ways to treat individuals who have a specific disease or disorder. Also called clinical study. See also randomized clinical trial.

developmental measure

any assessment used to measure an age-associated dimension, such as motor development in young children. The Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development is an example of a developmental measure.
