(symbol: SEM; σ_M) a statistic that indicates how much the average value (mean) for a particular sample is likely to differ from the average value for the larger population from which it is drawn. It is equal to σ/√n, where σ is the standard deviation of the original distribution and n is the sample size.

galantamine

n. an inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, with additional actions modulating nicotinic receptors directly, that is used for the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease (see cognitive enhancer). Although galantamine and other acetylcholinesterase inhibitors do not reverse symptoms of dementia, they have been demonstrated to temporarily slow progression of the disease.
