schizophreniform psychosis

a type of psychosis in which symptoms typical of nuclear schizophrenia are present but there is good premorbid adjustment, sudden onset in response to a clear precipitating event, and a good prognosis and high probability of return to normal levels of functioning. Also called schizophreniform state. [proposed in the late 1930s by Norwegian psychiatrist Gabriel Langfeldt (1895–1983)]
