a motor pathway that arises from the red nucleus in the brainstem and descends laterally in the spinal cord, where it stimulates flexor motor neurons and inhibits extensor motor neurons.

phentolamine

n. an alpha-adrenergic blocking agent with direct action on heart and smooth muscle. It is a potent vasodilator used in the management of severe hypertension associated with catecholamine excess, as in patients with pheochromocytomas. It is in infrequent clinical use. U.S. trade name: Regitine.
