red nucleus

a nucleus in the brainstem that receives input from the cerebellum and gives rise to the rubrospinal tract. In lower vertebrates, it is important in the control of limb movement. In humans, it has a role in crawling in infancy.

n. in an experimental design, the quantity, magnitude, or category of the independent variable (or variables) being studied. For example, if a researcher is assessing the effect of alcohol on cognition, each specific amount of alcohol included in the study is a level (e.g., 0.0 oz, 0.5 oz, 1.0 oz, 1.5 oz).
