acidosis

n. an abnormally high level of acidity (hydrogen ion concentration) in the blood and tissues, which upsets the body’s acid–base balance. The condition has numerous causes and symptoms vary with each, potentially including such neurological abnormalities as confusion, fatigue or lethargy, and irritability. Rapid breathing is often seen as well. Compare alkalosis. —acidotic adj.
