reproductive behavior

the range of activity, both biological and behavioral, that leads to propagation of individuals. The mechanisms range from simple cell division in unicellular organisms or budding of new offspring in simple multicellular organisms to a merger of chromosomes contributed by the male and female parents in sexual reproduction, often followed by supervision of the offspring until they can survive independently. Courtship, mate selection, copulation, and parental behavior are components of reproductive behavior.
