repressive coping style

a pattern of dealing with life characterized by downplaying problems or misfortunes and maintaining an artificially positive view. Repressive coping is indicated by a combination of high scores on social desirability bias and low scores on reported anxiety. See also positive illusion.

n. an alpha-adrenergic blocking agent with direct action on heart and smooth muscle. It is a potent vasodilator used in the management of severe hypertension associated with catecholamine excess, as in patients with pheochromocytomas. It is in infrequent clinical use. U.S. trade name: Regitine.
