a major depressive episode that is precipitated by a distressing event or situation, such as a career or relationship setback. Also called exogenous depression. Compare endogenous depression.

boxed warning

an alert strongly recommended by the U.S. Food and Drug Administrationus-food-and-drug-administration to be included in the labeling of medications that have been found to have particularly serious or life-threatening side effects or that should be prescribed only under certain circumstances or to certain patient populations. The warning must be prominently displayed and in bold type. Also called black box warning.
