probability distribution

a distribution describing the probability that a random variable will take certain values. The best known example is the bell-shaped normal distribution; others include the chi-square distribution, Student’s t distribution, and the F distribution. A probability distribution is a theoretical distribution.

any of successive regularly spaced gaps in the myelin sheath surrounding an axon. The gaps permit the exchange of ions across the plasma membrane at those points, allowing the nerve impulse to leap from one node to the next in so-called saltatory conduction along the axon.
