postvoluntary attention

postvoluntary attention

attention that has been captured by an absorbing and meaningful activity and that can be sustained enjoyably and productively for long periods of time. Such attention differs from involuntary attention in not being passive and from voluntary attention in not being experienced as effortful. See also effortless attention; flow.
