posttest counseling

a type of genetic counseling that occurs following disclosure of genetic test results. Posttest counseling focuses on the individual’s understanding of the meaning of the test results and of the options for screening. Considerable attention is given to the psychological status of the individual and to assessing whether he or she needs further medicalj or psychological services. Compare pretest counseling.
