n. deficiency of the B vitamin nicotinic acid (niacin), marked by weakness, gastrointestinal disturbances, skin disorders, and neurological symptoms, such as apathy, confusion, disorientation, and neuritis. Also called nicotinic acid deficiency.

in psychoanalysis, the interpretation of a patient’s early relationships and experiences as they are reflected and expressed in his or her present relationship to the analyst. Also called transference analysis. See transference.
