pantry-check technique

pantry-check technique

an inspection of the kitchen shelves or cabinets of households to determine whether the subjects of advertising research actually use the products they claim to prefer. Interviews alone often prove inadequate: Some market-research control studies have shown that as many as 15% of individuals interviewed may claim to use, prefer, or at least be acquainted with a particular product that has never been marketed or advertised.
