myoclonus

n. rapid, involuntary contraction of a muscle or group of muscles. This may occur normally, as when a limb or other part of the body suddenly jerks while falling asleep (see nocturnal myoclonus), or abnormally, as in Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease and other neurological disorders.
