lateral ventricle

a chamber of complex shape that lies within each cerebral hemisphere in the brain and serves as a reservoir of cerebrospinal fluid (see ventricle). Each lateral ventricle communicates with the third ventricle at a point near the thalamus.

n. any stimulant other than amphetamines that produces subjective effects similar to those caused by amphetamine use. These effects may include alertness, elevated mood, increased energy, decreased appetite, irritability, and insomnia. The group includes diethylpropion, methylphenidate, and pemoline.
