the gradual spread of a new technology to populations or population segments. Rates of diffusion are determined by the adoption and successful use of the technology. ego defect

ego defect

in psychoanalytic theory, the absence or limitation of ego functions. The prime function of the ego is perception of reality and adjustment to it. A defect in this function can be either the target of treatment or a deficiency that slows recovery.
