innovation diffusion

the gradual spread of a new technology to populations or population segments. Rates of diffusion are determined by the adoption and successful use of the technology. Innovation includes both tangible technologies, such as computer-based systems, and intangible technologies, such as processes or ways of thinking. See also product champion.

ego defect

in psychoanalytic theory, the absence or limitation of ego functions. The prime function of the ego is perception of reality and adjustment to it. A defect in this function can be either the target of treatment or a deficiency that slows recovery.
