employment test

any instrument used to assess the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics of applicants so as to predict their performance in a job. Employment tests can be used to measure a variety of attributes, such as decision-making skills, aptitudes and interests, personality traits, and sensory and motor abilities. See selection test. See also integrity testing; occupational test; personnel test; work-sample test.
