human nature

the generally innate but flexible characteristics of humankind as a whole, comprising the set of behaviors, attitudes, and dispositions that typify the human race. The concept of human nature has been rejected by several schools of modern thought, notably Marxism, feminism, and postmodernism. See also essentialism; universalism.
