general transfer

the transfer of general skills or principles acquired in one task or situation to problems in a totally different field. An example is applying the capacity for logical thought acquired in a philosophy course to problems arising in business (see transfer of training). acidosis

n. an abnormally high level of acidity (hydrogen ion concentration) in the blood and tissues, which upsets the body’s acid–base balance. The condition has numerous causes and symptoms vary with each, potentially including such neurological abnormalities as confusion, fatigue or lethargy, and irritability. Rapid breathing is often seen as well. Compare alkalosis. —acidotic adj.
