first-episode schizophrenia

the first time that the criteria for a diagnosis of schizophrenia are met in an individual. First episodes are considered to be a critically important period during which prompt management of symptoms through drug treatment and psychosocial intervention can improve the course of the illness and mitigate its long-term impact on the individual.

cognitive ethology

the study of mental experiences, including consciousness and intentionality, in nonhuman animals and of the influence of these experiences on the animals’ behavior as they interact with their natural environment.
