eigenvector

n. in linear algebra, any vector within a p-dimensional space that is associated with a given transformation and is left invariant (except for stretching or shrinking) by that transformation. Eigenvectors are important in multivariate statistics; their values are applied to variables to form a linear combination that synthesizes much of the variance in a set of variables.
