cryptorchidism

cryptorchidism

n. the failure of one or both testes to descend into the scrotum. It is not unusual and does not interfere with male hormonal function, but spermatogenesis is unlikely if the individual with this condition is not treated in childhood. The untreated condition is also associated with an increased incidence of testicular cancer in later life. Also called arrested testis; undescended testicle. See also ectopic testis; hypermobile testes; monorchidism. —cryptorchid adj., n.
