couvade

n.

1. a custom in some cultures in which the father takes to bed before or after his child is born, as if he himself suffered the pain of childbirth.

2. abdominal pain or other somatic symptoms appearing in male partners of pregnant women, usually presumed to be psychogenic in origin. Also called couvade syndrome.
