contextual subtheory

a part of the triarchic theory of intelligence according to which factors in the environment affect both an individual’s intelligence and what constitutes an intelligent response to a given situation. The subtheory postulates that people are intelligent in context to the extent that they effectively adapt to, shape, and select environments.
