computer programming

the process of giving coded instructions to a computer that direct it to perform a specific set of operations. The instructions are given in a formal computer programming language that the computer can read and understand. There are hierarchies of programming languages from low-level machine code and assembly languages to high-level languages, such as FORTRAN, LISP, Logo, and PROLOG.
