compressed speech

recorded speech that has been transformed so that it can be replayed without unacceptable distortion at a higher rate (in words per minute) than that at which it was originally produced. Speech compression is usually accomplished by digital coding and modifying the coded representation to preserve the characteristics of speech that are essential to its intelligibility while speeding its flow.
