n. an antidepressant of the SSRI class. It exerts its action by blocking the presynaptic serotonin transporter, preventing reabsorption of serotonin into the presynaptic neuron and thereby increasing levels of available serotonin in the synaptic cleft without increasing overall levels of serotonin in the brain.
