bupropion

n. an aminoketone that inhibits reuptake of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin and is commonly prescribed for the treatment of depression. In contrast to SSRIs and SNRIs, bupropion affects dopamine and norepinephrine more than serotonin and is sometimes used in combination with other antidepressants to augment the antidepressant response (see augmentation strategy). It has also been used in the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and as an adjuvant to behavioral treatment for smoking cessation. U.S. trade names: Wellbutrin; Zyban.
