automaintenance

n. a procedure in which stimulus–reinforcer pairings are used to sustain an already established behavior. It is most commonly used with pigeons. Signals are presented, regardless of behaviors, on a response device (e.g., a pecking disk), and reinforcement (e.g., food) is delivered after a specified time period regardless of the pigeons’ pecking activity.
