sharpness of hearing: the extent to which one is able to detect and discriminate between sounds that are very similar. For example, auditory frequency acuity is the ability to distinguish between sounds that differ in their frequency composition: A 1 kHz tone can be distinguished from a 1005 Hz tone (a 0.5% change), indicating a high degree of auditory frequency acuity.
