infrared

n. that part of the electromagnetic spectrum with wavelengths between about 0.8 μm and 1 mm. The near-infrared part of the range (0.8–3 μm) is experienced as heat. Infrared cameras are sensitive to thermal emissions from objects and can therefore produce photography in the dark.
