anaerobic exercise

strength-based physical activity, such as weight training and sprinting, that occurs in short, intense bursts with limited oxygen intake. The anaerobic threshold is the point at which energy use by the body is so great as to require the muscles to begin producing energy in the absence of adequate oxygen. Compare aerobic exercise.
