male climacteric

male climacteric

a hypothetical period in some men’s lives that has been compared to female menopause (see climacteric). Also known as male menopause, it occurs some 10 years later than in women and appears to be associated with declines in the levels of various hormones, such as testosterone. Symptoms, when they occur, include fatigue, problems with memory and concentration, decreased sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, and (in some cases) depression. Also called andropause; male climacterium. See also gonadopause.
