wind tunnel

a structure designed as a corridor through which air can be blown at controlled velocities and patterns of turbulence. Wind tunnels are mainly used to test the performance of aircraft or other objects or materials in a simulated outdoor environment. They may also be used in experiments to study the effects of wind or changing air pressures on the performance or behavior of humans or nonhuman animals. See also air-pressure effects.
