V5

visual area 5, which in primates is located in the temporal cortex. Most neurons in V5 are sensitive to the rate and direction of motion of a stimulus, and damage to a similar area in the human brain causes akinetopsia (motion agnosia). Also called MT (i.e., middle temporal, because V5 is located toward the back of the middle temporal gyrus); visual area MT.
