V3

visual area 3, which in primates is located in the prestriate cortex anterior to V2, from which it receives signals. It is specialized for monochromatic pattern perception. The ventral region is also referred to as area VP (ventral posterior area), whereas the dorsal region is often divided into two regions, V3a and V3b. The relationship among these three aspects of V3 is not fully understood.
