the haphazard or random fluctuation of data for individuals over time. It is one of two types of variance identified in research, the other being systematic variance arising from the effects of the independent variables studied.

theobromine

n. a methylxanthine alkaloid that occurs naturally in the seeds of Theobroma cacao, the cocoa plant. Theobromine is structurally similar to caffeine in coffee and theophylline in tea but has less pharmacological potency than either of these methylxanthines.
