domain identification

domain identification

the process by which individuals tacitly form a relationship between themselves and some field or pursuit, such as the academic, occupational, or athletic domain. Identification with the academic domain, for example, occurs for adolescents who value the rewards offered by success in educational settings, who feel they have the skills and resources needed in school, and who feel that others value achievements in this domain.
