tyrosine hydroxylase

tyrosine hydroxylase

an enzyme that catalyzes the first, and rate-limiting, step in the biosynthesis of the catecholamine neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. It transforms dietary tyrosine, using the coenzyme tetrahydrobiopterin and molecular oxygen, to L-dopa.
