tyrosine

tyrosine

n. a nonessential amino acid present in most proteins. It is a precursor of the catecholamine neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine, which differ structurally only at one position of the molecule. Tyrosine is derived from the essential amino acid phenylalanine.
